When looking for fuel injector cleaner check what the cleaning solution is made from, those with the base additives of PEA are generally regarded as being the most efficient, followed by those cleaners which contain PIBA or PNA as these are the components which have been tested the most. Fuel injector cleaner should not be used on a new engine or on a reconditioned engine, as they are thought to leave their own residue behind.
Clean Fuel Injectors?
Fuel injectors are designed to inject just the right quantity of fuel into the engine. If the injectors are not working properly because they are clogged the car is likely to become inefficient, fuel mileage will drop and the engine will start to stutter.
There will always be a certain amount of fuel residue left in the injectors which over time will build up and cause a reduction in the flow of fuel through them reducing the air/fuel mix that goes into the engine which can increase the chance of engine problems, which can turn out to be very costly.
How Often Should I Change My Oil?
How often you need to change your oil really depends on the age and make of your car. For cars that were manufactured before 2000, the general rule of thumb was to change the oil around every three months or 3,000 miles. Cars manufactured after 2000 do not need oil changes quite so regularly. It is important to check the car’s manual for the manufacturers recommendations regarding the frequency of oil changes.
Also, if you are regularly driving in harsh conditions, the vehicle will sustain more wear and tear and require more frequent oil changes. Fuel Injector Problems
Fuel injector problems can be caused by a number of factors, these could be due to electrical issues, fuel problems or restrictions causing problems in the flow of fuel and air into the engine. It takes only a small amount of restriction to cause an engine to misfire.
Faulty injectors can cause issues with a car’s turbo system. Deposits in the injectors can build up over time causing them to clog. To find out if an injector is clogged a balance test can identify which injector nozzle has the problem. A god indicator that there is a problem with the injectors is when the car won’t start on a full tank.
Clogged Fuel Injectors
When a fuel injector is clogged, it means that the flow of fuel through them is either restricted or stopped completely. They can become clogged over time as a result of a build up of debris in the fuel, as well as through rusting. Injectors can also become clogged when a car is left fuelled, without being used for long time periods. Finding which injector is clogged is done through a process of elimination, checking each one in turn. The good news is that clogged injectors can be fixed.
There are cleaning kits available, though to clean them properly is to remove them and have them cleaned professionally via an ultrasonic cleaning process. Once they are cleaned they are then flow tested to confirm that they are working correctly. Any fuel injectors which are completely dead cannot be repaired; they need to be removed and replaced with a like for like unit.
